Build advanced language skills to confidently provide therapy in Spanish

Learn Spanish with Alexander

Meet Alexander – a globetrotting clinical psychologist with a heart for helping people navigate the challenges of migration. Born and raised in Guatemala, he’s a native Spanish speaker who’s turned his passion for psychology into a worldwide adventure. From earning his Licenciatura in Clinical Psychology at the Universidad Rafael Landivar in Guatemala to completing a Master’s in Social Psychology at the Universidad de Valencia in Spain, Alexander’s journey has taken him across continents and cultures.

Currently a PhD candidate in Migration Studies at the University of Granada, Alexander’s research digs deep into the mental health of migrants, refugees, international students, and business expats in Spain. His curiosity has led him to study in Colombia, Mexico, and India, while his work as a researcher has spanned institutions like the University of Chile and the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.

With a diverse skill set, Alexander works as a clinical psychologist helping adults cope with migration stress using a mix of systemic and gestalt therapy. He's collaborated with nonprofits and public organizations across Guatemala, Spain, Chile, and the Netherlands, providing support to migrants (especially families, women, and children), the LGBTQIA+ community, and religious groups.

Oh, and did we mention he’s also an ELE certified (Español como Lengua Extranjera) Spanish tutor? Alexander’s been teaching Spanish since 2017, bringing his love for language to learners around the globe.

Whether you're a mental health professional working with migrants, a researcher working with Spanish-Speaking participants or collaborators, or just someone passionate about improving mental health for diverse communities, Alexander is your go-to Spanish tutor!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule my appointment?

Upon purchasing tutoring, you'll receive access to your tutor's calendar. Once you have booked an appointment you will receive further instructions via email on how to access your appointment online. If you have booked a package of tutoring lessons, you will receive separate emails to book each lesson.

Can I purchase tutoring lessons more than once?

Absolutely! If you find yourself in need of tutoring more than once, simply purchase the tutoring lesson again or sign up for one of our tutoring packages.

Do I already have to know Spanish to join Elevar Project?

No, we welcome students of all proficiency levels! Our tutors have experience working with students from beginners to advanced. We recommend that you meet with a tutor to discuss your goals and to obtain at least an intermediate level of Spanish before working with any patients. Some of our courses are appropriate for students at a beginner level proficiency. Check the course description to verify what level proficiency is recommended.

How often should I take tutoring lessons?

It depends on your goals. If you already have an advanced level of proficiency and only want to practice specific course material, a single lesson may be good enough. If your goal is to improve your grammar and fluency, taking weekly lessons is recommended. One lesson per week is a good amount for someone in the upper intermediate level. Two to three lessons per week is recommended for someone who is interested in accelerated learning.

For trainees that would like on-going support during a practicum year (10 months), we recommend 1 tutoring lesson per week for a minimum of 32 lessons. That should be sufficient to support you throughout the year and have enough breaks for holidays and midterms/finals.

If you are a clinical supervisor for trainees who provide therapy in Spanish, but are struggling to conduct supervision in Spanish, we recommend that you also obtain weekly tutoring support to help you achieve your supervision goals.

Do tutoring packages expire?

Yes, please check your particular tutoring package to verify when packages expire.
